DECLARATION OF THE COMMISSION FOR DIALOGUE FOR MALVINAS

On December 16, on the occasion of a new anniversary of the adoption of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2065 (XX), the Commission for Dialogue for Malvinas of Lebanon adopted the following Declaration supporting Argentina's sovereignty rights in the Question of the Malvinas Islands.

The members of the Commission for Dialogue for Malvinas of Lebanon highlight the need to comply with the provisions of resolution 2065 (XX) and subsequent resolutions of the General Assembly and the Special Committee on Decolonization on the Question of the Malvinas Islands, and call for the resumption, as soon as possible, of negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in order to reach a definitive solution to this anachronistic colonial situation.

Fifty six years since the adoption of resolution 2065 (XX) by the United Nations General Assembly, the Commission expresses its support for the legitimate sovereignty rights of the Argentine Republic over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgias and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas, based on solid legal and historical arguments, and expresses its concern about the persistence of the illegal British occupation that has been sustained for more than 188 years over a portion of Argentine territory.
