Passports for minors

It is compulsory to have the consent of those who exercise parental responsibility to process a passport application for minors. Therefore, the presence of both parents and submitting the birth certificate of the minor and the identification documentation of his/her parents are mandatory.

The express consent of both parents will be necessary, unless:

1) One of the parents is deceased. The surviving parent will prove the death of the other parent with the legalized death certificate.

2) Only one of the parents exercises the parental responsibility. The parent who carries out the procedure will prove the exclusive exercise of parental authority with the judicial sentence that grants it or that approves any such agreement, duly legalized.

3) The minor has a designated guardian, who will present a copy of his appointment, or a legalized copy containing the authorization for the processing of the minor's passport.

To process all kinds of passports for minors who are not accompanied by all the people who exercise parental responsibility or by their legal representative, the corresponding authorization must be submitted.

Passports belonging to minors will be handed over exclusively and in person to both parents or to only one of them when the latter is expressly and previously authorized for such purposes by the other.
